BEST TEACHER IN TALK！！ HER NAME IS ABBY！！
BEST Teacher of November, T. Abby
今回はTALKのBEST Teacher Abby（アビー）について紹介します。まず「BEST Teacher」制度についてご存じない方も多いかと思いますので説明させて頂きます。TALKでは月に一度、生徒さん達にに先生に対する評価についてアンケートをお願いしています。アンケートの内容は講師の授業でのパフォーマンスを各項目5点満点で評価するというものです。アンケートをとることで、日日々のマンツーマン授業での学生さん達の満足度向上につながります。以下で質問の一部をご紹介します。
- Knowledge about background of the subject matter （担当教科に関する知識）
- Correct student’s mistake （生徒の間違いを正すこと）
- Preparation （準備）
- Attitude in Class （授業態度）
もちろん全てが重要なのですが、個人的に2番が特に重要だと考えています。生徒は完璧ではない英語でだとしても、とにかく積極的にアウトプットすることが大切です。先生は生徒が言おうとしていることを汲み取り、それを正しいに直し、英語で生徒の意図を確認しながら授業を進行するのです。生徒は自分の言いたいことを即座に正しい英語に直してもらうことで、次はより正しい表現で意思を伝えることが出来るようになるはずです。
このようなアンケートによって今月のBEST Teacherに選ばれたAbby。彼女はこの賞についてどのように思っているのでしょうか？以下、BEST Teacherに選ばれた際の彼女のコメント（※は筆者注釈）です。
If there's something life taught me, it is to put your heart into everything you do. If you cannot put your heart into it then it's probably better to just let it go.
I am a person with diverse interests. I like to read a lot. I am a frustrated writer of poems and songs. I play my guitar when I'm bored. I sing in the shower. I enjoy conversations just as much as I enjoy being alone. So yes, several things interest me but teaching has always been my passion; the idea that it is possible for me to educate people gives me joy and encourages me to be a better person on the daily. Thus, having an actual job in the field I adore is a blessing that I get to enjoy every day. More so, seeing the realization in my students' eyes when they begin to understand a difficult topic is something that motivates me to teach more passionately.
However, getting recognized for simply doing your job is both an honor and a responsibility; being awarded for doing things that are already expected of you is a bit strange, right? But it is a reminder that we need to put continuous effort in everything we do not only for the benefit of others but also for our betterment as people. It is a reminder that good things indeed happen to anyone who puts their heart into it. It is a reminder that running the extra mile is worth all the hassle.
Teaching is my passion and I thank this institution for giving me the opportunity to live it.

- Speaking
写真からも伝わるように、彼女は天真爛漫。何より、彼女と話していて楽しいと感じました。なので私は次から次へと英語をアウトプットできました。そして私の間違った英語をさりげなく言い直してくれる優しさ、彼女の人気に納得しました。
- TOEIC Listening ＆ Reading
彼女が常に心がけているのは、生徒のレベルに合った授業をすること。TOEICのパートごとにコツを教えてくれました。例えば、リスニングで聞き取るべきポイントである「Key Word・ 動詞・語彙・時制」について、また新形式TOEICで頻出のいわゆる「Implied or Suggested Questions」についてです。後者は、「文脈を把握していないと答えられない問題」です。文章についての要約や違ったセンテンスでの言い換えを生徒に聞くことで、生徒のその文章に対する理解度を確認し、正解できなかった原因を探ります。語彙、文法、語法、時間配分などなどの原因がはっきりすれば後は努力のみです。彼女はあなたの努力を心強く後押ししてくれるでしょう。
